Matthew C. Penny is Counsel in the Firm’s Litigation Department, representing clients in high-stakes, complex commercial litigation. He has extensive experience advising clients in connection with matters involving insurance, internal investigations, mergers and acquisitions, securities and breach of contract claims, among others. Matthew C. Penny is Counsel in the Firm’s Litigation Department. Matthew represents clients in high-stakes, complex commercial litigation. He has extensive experience advising clients in connection with matters involving insurance, internal investigations, mergers and acquisitions, securities and breach of contract claims, among others. Matthew has represented clients in numerous state and federal jurisdictions across the United States. 

Matthew’s representative experience includes:

  • Representing a major U.S. insurer in opioid-related insurance coverage litigations across the country against distributors of opioid drugs
  • Representing a major U.S. property insurance company in appeals related to insurance coverage disputes arising from the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Advising financial services companies in connection with internal investigations in response to demands by shareholders and other individuals
  • Advising corporate clients regarding insurance-related issues that arise in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and other transactions
  • Representing various insurers in insurance coverage litigations concerning asbestos-related tort claims
  • Representing corporate clients in litigations related to securities and breach of contract claims

Matthew previously completed a clerkship with the Honorable Eric N. Vitaliano of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he was an Editor on the Yale Journal on Regulation and a Director of the Capital Assistance Project. Matthew received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Franklin & Marshall College.
