Robert Rabalais is a Partner in the Houston office of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and a member of the Firm’s Banking and Credit Group. Mr. Rabalais’ practice focuses on a range of lending and capital markets transactions in the oil and gas exploration and production, midstream and related service sectors. He represents corporate borrowers and issuers, commercial banks and mezzanine lenders, institutional investors and insurance companies.
Mr. Rabalais, who has been identified as “one of the country’s top energy financing lawyers” by Law360 and named 2012 Houston Lawyer of the Year for Banking and Finance Law by Best Lawyers, has represented J.P. Morgan Securities LLC in connection with numerous financing transactions, including most recently $7.0 billion underwritten bank and bridge financing for the acquisition of certain BP GOM assets by Plains Exploration & Production; RKI Exploration & Production in its $170.0 million Second Lien Term Loan Credit Agreement; LLOG Bluewater in its $450.0 million reserve based development facility and Wells Fargo Bank in the credit facilities for certain affiliated investment funds managed by EnerVest, including one credit facility to effectively leverage Net Profit Interests investments by UBTI sensitive investors.
Mr. Rabalais received his J.D. from Louisiana State University Law Center and his B.S. from Louisiana State University. Mr. Rabalais is admitted to practice in Louisiana and Texas. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Rabalais was at the law firm of Vinson & Elkins for over 20 years.
