Chad Skinner, a Corporate Partner in our Palo Alto office, focuses on mergers and acquisitions. He has extensive experience working with private equity firms, corporations and investment banks on a wide spectrum of transactions. In two headline-making multibillion-dollar deals, he led the Firm’s representation of Getty Images’ $3.3 billion sale to Carlyle and Getty Images management. Chad also advised Silver Lake Partners on its $24.4 billion acquisition of Dell—the largest ever tech buyout. His other clients have included Hellman & Friedman, KSL Capital, Sageview Capital and Alibaba.

Chad Skinner is a Partner in the Firm's Corporate Department, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions. He regularly represents private equity firms, corporations and investment banks in a wide range of transactions, including leveraged buyouts, stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions, recapitalizations, mergers, private investments in public equities (PIPE) financings and private company minority investments, as well as general corporate and securities law matters.

Transactions on which Chad has worked include the representation of:

  • Silver Lake Partners in the $24.4 billion acquisition of Dell

  • Getty Images in its $3.3 billion sale to Carlyle and Getty Images management

  • Hellman & Friedman in its acquisitions of Applied Systems, Hub International, Pharmaceutical Product Development, Associated Materials, Getty Images, Datatel and Sheridan Healthcare

  • Silver Lake Partners and Warburg Pincus in their $3.4 billion acquisition of Interactive Data Corporation

  • Alibaba in minority investments in a number of U.S. private companies

  • Datatel in its $1.775 billion combination with the Higher Education business of SunGard Data Systems

Chad was named a “Rising Star” in 2013 by Law360 for private equity, highlighting his work with high-profile clients on several multibillion-dollar private equity transactions.

Chad also was named by the M&A Advisor in 2013 as a winner of its annual 40 Under 40 M&A Advisor Recognition Awards – Western Region.

Chad was recognized as a top corporate innovator by Daily Journal for his work on Sheridan Healthcare Inc.'s $2.35 billion sale to AmSurg Corp. in 2014.

Chad joined Simpson Thacher in 1997. He received his B.A., cum laude, in 1994 from Duke University and his J.D., cum laude, in 1997 from the University of Michigan School of Law, where he was a member of the Michigan Law Review.  He is admitted to practice in California and New York.
