Gareth Earl, Head of Simpson Thacher’s European Private Funds Practice, and Amy Mahon, Co-Head of the Firm’s Energy and Infrastructure Practice, have both been named to Private Equity News’ list of the “Twenty Most Influential Private Equity Lawyers” for 2025.

Gareth was recognized for his work advising on “some of the largest and most complex private equity funds in Europe,” including several of the most successful fundraises of the past year, such as Cinven’s $14.5 billion eighth fund, Astorg’s €4.4 billion Fund VIII, and CVC’s sixth Asia-focused fund, which raised $6.8 billion.

Amy was selected for her work advising “some of the world’s best-known private equity firms, infrastructure funds and corporations.” PE News highlighted her role guiding 10 high-profile transactions over the last year, including EQT and GIC in their acquisition of a majority stake in Calisen Group; and KKR’s acquisition of Smart Metering Systems and subsequent combination of SMS with Horizon Energy Infrastructure and Smart Meter Assets.
