Law360 Profiles Simpson Thacher as a 2025 Fund Formation Practice Group of the Year
Simpson Thacher was named a Fund Formation Practice Group of the Year by Law360, recognizing the Firm’s role in guiding clients through some of the year’s most significant and innovative fundraises. The profile spotlighted the team’s work on Blackstone’s inaugural evergreen institutional U.S. direct lending fund, which closed with approximately $22 billion of investable capital. Jonathan Karen, Co-Head of the Firm’s Investment Funds Practice, told Law360 that the deal showcases the team’s “ability to create innovative new structures that will help to shape the market.” Simpson Thacher was also recognized for advising ICG in establishing its fifth general partner-led secondaries fund program, which surpassed its $6 billion target and secured $11 billion in capital commitments. Reflecting on the deal, Investment Funds Practice Co-Head Barry Covit emphasized the Firm’s leadership in the secondaries space, noting that the Firm has “the leading practice for representing secondaries firms, generally, in the formation of their funds.”
