Registered Funds Partner Ryan Brizek was quoted in a Pitchbook article titled, “SEC Votes to Let PE Firms Charge Performance Fees to Less Wealthy Investors,” which discussed proposed SEC measures aimed at expanding investor access to private market products. The article explored the potential impact of replacing the “qualified client” standard for regulated funds with a conditional exemption that would result in no wealth threshold for investors in regulated funds that compensate their investment advisers with performance fees. Discussing the significance of the proposed change to the performance-based compensation requirements, Ryan noted that eliminating the wealth test “could be very meaningful for private market managers,” if adopted as proposed.
