Chet A. Kronenberg

Chet Kronenberg, senior Los Angeles litigator, represents clients in a wide range of complex commercial litigation, including defending clients in consumer, employment, insurance and securities lawsuits, and government investigations. Chet has served as lead counsel for clients such as Aptive Environmental, Banc of California, Beazley Group, Blackstone, Citibank, KKR, L3 Technologies, LG Display, Lion Capital, Nature Home Flooring, Pinnacle Foods, SiriusXM Radio, Siris Capital, Vivint, Inc., Vivint Solar, Vivo Capital, Whittaker, Clark & Daniels and Yingli, among others. He has been recognized by The Legal 500 in multiple categories, including Securities Litigation, Insurance and Appellate. • Lead counsel representing Lloyd’s of London syndicates in coverage litigation relating to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
• Lead counsel representing Aptive Environmental in disability discrimination arbitration, including prevailing on summary judgment.
• Lead counsel representing Banc of California in lawsuit brought by former CEO against the Banc for defamation and other claims, including prevailing on anti-SLAPP motion.
• Lead counsel representing AmGUARD Insurance Company in California state and federal court lawsuits brought by restaurants and hotels seeking business interruption insurance stemming from social distancing orders in response to the COVID-19 virus, including multiple victories on motions to dismiss.
• Lead counsel representing KKR in employment-related litigation, including prevailing on motion to dismiss.
• Lead counsel representing Whittaker, Clark & Daniels in reversal of $3 million punitive damages award in asbestos-related case.
• Lead counsel representing Chubb, AXA XL and Swiss Re in aviation insurance litigation related to airplanes allegedly grounded in Russia.
• Lead counsel representing Vivint, Inc. in multiple wage and hour class action and PAGA lawsuits.
• FM Global in dismissal of suits by baseball teams and casinos seeking to recover billions in business losses attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• SeaWorld in successfully resolving high-profile lawsuits, including in dismissal of a securities class action.
• Lead counsel representing venture capital firm in arbitrations with former partner.
• Lead counsel representing Vivint, Inc. in racial discrimination arbitration, including prevailing on summary judgment.
• Vista Equity Partners in California lawsuits alleging that it tortiously interfered with contracts between one of its portfolio companies and one of the portfolio companies’ directors.
• Lead counsel successfully defending Chinese solar panel company Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (complete dismissal) in securities fraud lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
• Lead counsel for 500.com, a leading online sports lottery service provider in China, in securities fraud lawsuit in the Central District of California.
• Lead counsel successfully defending Pinnacle Foods (complete dismissal) in consumer class action lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California concerning the cooking instruction on its packaging.
• Representing Travelers in insurance dispute in connection with California environmental contamination action.
• Lead counsel successfully defending Blackstone (complete dismissal) in civil enforcement action brought by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office concerning the alleged actions of certain of its portfolio companies.
• Lead counsel successfully defending Citibank (complete dismissal) in class action lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court arising out of its relationship with Commercial Money Center.
• Lead counsel for LG Display in a billion dollar antitrust lawsuit filed by Sony in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
• Lead counsel for 15 investment funds in employment-related action brought by former employees of fund manager in Santa Clara Superior Court.
• Lead counsel for Lion Capital in federal securities and derivative actions pending in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in connection with Lion Capital’s relationship with American Apparel.
• Lead counsel for L-3 Technologies, Inc. and L3 Unidyne, Inc. in class action lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California alleging that defendants’ background investigative consent form did not comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
• Lead counsel successfully defending Vivint Solar (complete dismissal) in consumer class action lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California alleging that Vivint Solar pulled credit reports on consumers without a permissible purpose in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
• Lead counsel successfully defending Vivint, Inc. (complete dismissal) in lawsuit pending in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California alleging, among other things, violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act on account of Vivint’s use of a disclosure form containing state law disclosures in addition to the required federal disclosure.
• Lead counsel for Suncrest Solar in wage and hour class actions brought by former employees in California state courts.
• Lead counsel for Vivint Solar in declaratory judgment action brought by a former employee in San Mateo Superior Court challenging the enforceability of a non-competition clause.
• Lead counsel for SiriusXM Radio in consumer class action lawsuits filed in California state and federal courts.
• Lead counsel for Nature Home Flooring in obtaining $17.2 million judgment against a former officer and director for embezzlement.
• Lead counsel in litigation arising out of corporate acquisitions and related transactions, including the acquisition of Excel Trust by Blackstone; the acquisition of TNS by Siris Capital; the acquisition of M*Modal by One Equity Partners; the acquisition of Tekelec by an investor group led by Siris Capital; the acquisition of Alloy Media by an investor group led by ZelnickMedia; the acquisition of MedQuist Inc. by MedQuist Holdings; the acquisition of Airvana by an investor group led by SAC Private Capital; and the acquisition of Hilton Hotels by affiliates of The Blackstone Group. 

Chet was elected to membership in the Firm in 2001. He received his B.A. from Tufts University in 1990 and his J.D. from the New York University School of Law in 1993. Chet currently serves on the board of directors of the Southern California Tennis Association and Levitt & Quinn Family Law Center.
