Pro Bono

Each year, Simpson Thacher's lawyers devote many thousands of hours to pro bono projects.

These matters are as varied as representing:

  • Immigrants and asylum seekers
  • Victims of trafficking and domestic violence
  • Indigent criminal defendants and those seeking second chances through conviction relief
  • Veterans seeking legal advice and service-connected benefits
  • LGBTQ+ clients seeking name and gender marker changes
  • Micro-entrepreneurs starting new businesses
  • Nonprofits in corporate and tax matters
  • Children seeking access to special education services in school
  • Low-income seniors seeking end of life documents
  • Communities seeking religious freedom, freedom from discrimination, and access to the ballot

We also handle impact litigation involving civil and human rights issues, and write amicus briefs on constitutional issues before the U.S. Supreme Court and Circuit Courts on behalf of civil rights organizations and others nationwide.
