Bryce L. Friedman is a Partner in the Firm’s Litigation department.  He concentrates on representing clients in complex commercial disputes, class actions, and investigations.  Mr. Friedman’s recent clients have included AIG (now Chartis), Travelers, Doubleclick, Genessee & Wyoming Railroad, JP Morgan Chase and Heineken.

Mr. Friedman has represented energy, financial services, and consumer products companies in class actions alleging violations of unfair trade practices, securities and antitrust statutes.  He has recently represented a major technology company in non-compete litigation, and a leading railroad in a variety of commercial litigation.

Mr. Friedman currently represents a leading property casualty insurer in False Claims, antitrust and class actions related to Hurricane Katrina claims handling practices brought by private and governmental plaintiffs.  He has also represented insurers in a variety of commercial disputes and regularly advises property casualty insurers on claims handling and trade practice issues.

In insurance coverage matters, Mr. Friedman successfully represented an insurer in a multi-million dollar arbitration in which his client was found to have no obligation to provide non-products coverage to an asbestos insulation installer.  He also represented a family of insurers in defeating billions of dollars of claims for Y2K computer remediation coverage.  Mr. Friedman has represented insurers in coverage disputes concerning a host of technology, fraud, product liability and other claims under a variety of first and third party coverage.

In bankruptcy matters, Mr. Friedman has represented creditors, including the objectors in In re ACandS, 297 B.R. 395 (Bankr. D. Del.), who defeated confirmation of a chapter 11 plan of reorganization.  He also represented Motor Coach Industries in the successful effort to confirm its contested Chapter 11 plan of reorganization.

Mr. Friedman has also represented directors and companies in the financial services, telecommunications and consumer products industries in connection with investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, state attorneys general and financial regulatory authorities.  He has also conducted numerous internal investigations.

Mr. Friedman joined the Firm in 1999 and became a partner in 2006.  He received his B.A., cum laude, from Dartmouth College.  Mr. Friedman is a graduate of Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.  Prior to joining the Firm, he served as a law clerk for the late United States District Judge Shirley Wohl Kram in the Southern District of New York.

Mr. Friedman is a New York State certified emergency medical technician and has been a volunteer EMS provider and served on the board of EMS agencies in New York City for over twenty years.
