David Vann is a Partner in the Firm's Litigation Department, concentrating in antitrust, government and internal investigations and compliance, complex commercial litigation and international arbitration.  His experience includes counseling clients on a wide variety of antitrust and compliance issues ranging from mergers and acquisitions, B2B exchanges, joint ventures, distribution practices to civil litigation, criminal grand jury investigations and regulatory compliance.  He has also conducted internal investigations for companies confronting potential misconduct by their officers and employees.  He has represented clients before federal and state courts throughout the United States, the Federal Trade Commission, the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, the European Commission and in a variety of arbitrations.

In the past year, Mr. Vann has advised Xerox in its acquisition of Affiliated Computer Systems, Wyeth in its acquisition by Pfizer, KKR in its joint venture with Bertelsmann to form BMG Rights Management, Blackstone in its acquisition of joint interest in the Broadgate Estate, and KKR in its joint acquisition of TASC.  He has also represented Barr Pharmaceuticals on its acquisition by Teva Pharmaceuticals, Unisteel in its acquisition of MMI.  Mr. Vann has represented Virgin Atlantic in connection with the Department of Justice’s grand jury investigation into the pricing of fuel surcharges in the airline industry and related civil litigation, adidas in its acquisition of Reebok, Smithfield Foods in its acquisition of Sara Lee Foods Europe, Celanese in its acquisition of Acetex, Owens-Illinois in its acquisition of BSN Glasspack and Grey Global in its sale to WPP.  He represented Vivendi Universal before antitrust authorities in the US, Europe and other jurisdictions in connection with the sale of the Seagram Spirits and Wine business, and Seagram in connection with its merger with Vivendi and Canal+.  He also advised on the successful defense of the United International Pictures joint venture before the European Commission. He has provided Blackstone, KKR and their respective portfolio companies with antitrust and compliance advice in connection with their activities and has participated in the representation of Swiss Re and Argenbright in connection with lawsuits arising from September 11.

Mr. Vann is listed in Chambers’ Guide to the World’s Leading Business Lawyers, Global Competition Review’s International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and in PLC’s Competition Law Handbook as a leading competition lawyer.

Mr. Vann is admitted to the bar in New York and to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.  He is also admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.  Mr. Vann received his B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1983 and his J.D. from Cornell University in 1990.
