George M. Newcombe is Of Counsel in the Firm’s Litigation Department and formerly was Head of the Palo Alto office.  Mr. Newcombe’s practice is focused on servicing the litigation needs of companies in Silicon Valley, including patent and other intellectual property litigation, commercial arbitration, securities litigation, among other matters.  Representations include Intel Corporation, Apple Inc., Adobe Systems, Inc., Cisco Systems, Inc., Elpida Memory, Inc., and SAP AG.

Mr. Newcombe became a partner in 1983.  He received his B.S., magna cum laude, in Chemical Engineering in 1969 from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1975, where he was a James Kent Scholar, a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and a founding editor of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law.

Mr. Newcombe was recently recognized as a leading Intellectual Property: Patent lawyer in California by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2011.

Mr. Newcombe is a member of the American Law Institute, the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, The Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the American Bar Association, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, the Federal Bar Council and the Defense Research Institute.  He is a Director the Legal Aid Society – Employment Law Center, a Director of the American Ditchley Foundation, a member of the Board of Visitors of Columbia Law School and a member of the Board of Overseers of the New Jersey Institute of Technology.  He is admitted to practice in California, New York, New Jersey, numerous federal district courts and appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court.
