James G. Gamble is a partner in the Firm’s Litigation Department.  He has represented financial institutions and other clients in a wide range of complex litigation, including securities, insurance coverage, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and general commercial disputes.  Mr. Gamble has been involved in a number of investigations on behalf of Simpson Thacher clients, including serving as a principal investigator of what was at the time the largest Ponzi scheme in U.S. history as part of the firm's representation of the bankruptcy trustee in the matter of In re The Bennett Funding Group, Inc., working closely with the U.S. Dept. of Justice in their successful prosecution of the architect of the Ponzi scheme.  Mr. Gamble was also a member of the litigation team that successfully represented the largest insurer of the World Trade Center in the landmark case SR Int'l Bus. Ins. vs. World Trade Center Properties, et al., and recently obtained a dismissal of a complaint  seeking to enjoin construction of a $1 billion + power plant project on behalf of Simpson Thacher client First Reserve Corporation.  Examples of other matters that he has handled include In re AIG Securities and Derivative Litigation, Bader v. Ainslie, et al. (options backdating), In re Express Scripts Securities Litigation and representation of Spanish utility Gas Natural, S.A. in the U.S. litigation arising out of its attempted tender offer for its rival Spanish utility Endesa, S.A. in the largest proposed hostile tender offer in Spanish history.

Mr. Gamble received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University in 1989.  He received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1994 where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar.  Mr. Gamble also holds a Masters in Business Administration (Finance) from Columbia Business School where he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma.  Mr. Gamble joined Simpson Thacher in 1996 and became a partner in 2004.
