Jack Kerr is a Partner in the Firm's Litigation Department.  Mr. Kerr advises clients in general litigation and arbitration matters.  He has represented a major medical products distributor in an intellectual property dispute under a distribution agreement.  He also has represented Ford Motor Company in a series of arbitrations in London to recover claims from Bermuda insurers on high level excess insurance policies and DHL International in an ICC arbitration in Paris involving a dispute under a shareholders agreement.

Mr. Kerr is a frequent author and lecturer on international arbitration topics.  He is the author of "Court Jurisdiction and Arbitration over Misrepresentation in U.S. Securities Transactions" in The Law of Cross Border Securities Transactions (Sweet & Maxwell, London, 1999) and A Chart Comparing International Commercial Arbitration Rules, published in collaboration with the Parker School of Comparative Law, Columbia Law School (Juris Publishing, 1998; 2nd edition 2002).  Mr. Kerr is a member of the American Bar Association where he is a member of the Litigation Section and International Litigation Committee; the International Bar Association and its Business Section, Litigation Committee and Dispute Resolution Committee, the Federal Bar Council and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.  

Mr. Kerr joined Simpson Thacher in 1978 and became a partner in 1983.  He received his A.B. from Boston College in 1972, where he graduated summa cum laude, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and won the Durcan Medal in History.  He received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1976 where he was a Stone Scholar, an International Fellow, a National Scholar (7th Circuit) and Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law.  He clerked for the Honorable Gus J. Solomon, United States District Court for the District of Oregon.  Mr. Kerr has been a member of the Columbia Law School Board of Visitors since 1991. He is Chairman of the New York Landmarks Conservancy, a director of the London School of Economics Foundation, a director of the American Arbitration Association, and President of the American Foreign Law Association.
