Steven Fuhrman is a Partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in the Firm's Bankruptcy Department. Mr. Fuhrman regularly advises clients in connection with Chapter 11 restructurings, potential Chapter 9 cases, out-of-court workouts, acquisitions of troubled companies and the structuring of corporate and credit transactions. Mr. Fuhrman's principal focus since 1985 has been and continues to be the representation of banks and other financial institutions in the restructuring of large syndicated credit facilities extended to borrowers in a wide variety of businesses and industries. Such work has involved complex out-of-court consensual restructurings and representation prior to, during and after Chapter 11 proceedings, including "pre-packaged" cases, cases involving the sale of substantially all of the Debtors' assets, and cases in which his lender clients became the majority owners and holders of restructured debt obligations of reorganized businesses. His practice has also included representation of lenders in connection with the making of new loans under post-petition financing arrangements and Chapter 11 exit facilities, as well as advice relating to the structuring of corporate governance matters for post-Chapter 11 companies.
Mr. Fuhrman is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the New York State Bar Association. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Tufts University in 1982 and his J.D. with Honors from New York University School of Law in 1985, where he was on the Editorial Staff of the Review of Law and Social Change.
