For over three decades since its establishment in 1978, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett’s London office has advised the Firm’s clients on a broad range of transactions throughout Europe. We advise on both U.S. and English law as it affects our corporate, mergers and acquisitions, banking, capital markets, private funds and antitrust clients. Specialists in competition, real estate, arbitration, litigation and tax augment the office’s core corporate, banking and private funds teams.

The London office’s mergers and acquisitions practice reflects the Firm’s worldwide leadership position in this field. Our London attorneys regularly represent U.S. and European clients in significant cross-border acquisitions, dispositions, spin-offs and joint ventures. We represent many of the major U.S. and European private equity clients and have advised on some of Europe’s largest corporate acquisitions and buyouts.

A highly regarded U.S. and English law banking team complements our leading mergers and acquisitions practice. This team regularly represents borrowers and lenders in sophisticated acquisition financings as well as other structured credit facilities.

Our London lawyers have long been involved in debt and equity offerings by U.S. and European issuers in the world’s main capital markets, including initial public offerings and public and private offerings of senior debt, convertible instruments and other securities. We have particularly distinguished ourselves as leading participants in the European high yield bond market, representing both issuers and underwriters.

Simpson Thacher has one of the world’s preeminent private funds practices, and our London office provides U.S. and English law capability in representing many of the world’s best known fund sponsors, as well as sophisticated fund investors. The Firm’s practice is global in scope and covers funds with a wide variety of investment criteria, including buyout funds, real estate funds, infrastructure/energy funds, venture capital funds, mezzanine funds, fund of funds, distressed debt funds and other credit oriented funds.

Our London-based litigators advise our clients with respect to U.S. and European Union competition matters, handle European aspects of U.S. legal proceedings, and represent our clients in international arbitrations and internal investigations.

With approximately seventy attorneys, the London office is staffed with lawyers fluent in most major European languages and includes both U.S. and English qualified partners and associates.
