The Firm has a specialized mergers and acquisitions practice focused specifically on transactions in the investment management industry.  As these transactions are often highly negotiated and contain significant industry-specific considerations (including complex regulatory elements), the Firm’s clients are best represented by mergers and acquisitions specialists who have dedicated a substantial portion of their time to transactions in this industry.

The Firm has represented the purchaser or seller in some of the most significant mergers and acquisitions in the investment management industry, including Lehman's acquisition of Neuberger Berman, Credit Suisse's acquisition of Warburg Pincus Asset Management, the sale of Kemper to Zurich Insurance, and the sale of BlackRock to PNC Bank.  The Firm also often represents both buyers and sellers of investment management businesses in connection with middle-market transactions, and has been regular outside transaction counsel for Affiliated Managers Group since 1998.

The Firm also has represented principals in some of the most significant investment management minority investments, including Blackstone in connection with a minority investment made by AIG, and Credit Suisse in connection with a minority investment in Warburg, Pincus & Co.  The Firm also has represented principals in significant investment management joint ventures, including HVB's fund-of-hedge funds joint venture with Ramius Capital Group, First Quadrant’s Japanese joint venture with Nomura, and Paine Webber’s Japanese joint venture with Yasuda.
