Simpson Thacher Successfully Obtains FTC Clearance of Google's Proposed Acquisition of DoubleClick

12.20.07
The Federal Trade Commission, by a 4 to 1 vote, today cleared the $3.1 billion Google/DoubleClick merger. The proposed transaction was announced last April and generated one of the highest profile antitrust investigations in the past several years. The deal has been the target of organized opposition, primarily by competitors of Google and DoubleClick. Simpson Thacher has represented Hellman & Friedman and DoubleClick for the past eight months in all proceedings before the FTC, which included an extensive Second Request investigation. The Firm continues to represent DoubleClick in Phase II proceedings before the European Commission, which will proceed during 2008. Simpson Thacher's DoubleClick team was led by Kevin Arquit and Peter Thomas, with an integrated Washington, D.C. and New York team of associates, including Annette Rizzi, Hillary Mintz, Reynelle Brown, Kathryn McCarthy, Brooke Johnson (now back at the Allens firm in Sydney), Meryl Rosen, Howie Wachtell, Stephanie Shaman, Tai Adams, Jonathan Lin and Maco Stewart.
