Mr. Furber is Counsel at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in the Firm’s Hong Kong office, and a member of the Firm's Corporate Department.  Mr. Furber's primary area of concentration is private investment funds, an area in which the Firm has a preeminent Asian and international presence, and he also has significant experience in capital markets and merger and acquisition transactions. 

Mr. Furber regularly represents a broad range of alternative asset management firms in the formation and ongoing operation of their private equity and other private investment funds.  His recent experience includes the representation of sponsors such as Advantage Partners, The Blackstone Group, BOCOM Asset Management, China-ASEAN Capital, Excelsior Capital Asia, FountainVest Partners, New Horizon Capital, Primus Financial and Yunfeng Capital.  In addition, Mr. Furber has extensive experience with the structuring and negotiation of jointly controlled asset managers and other special situations.  He also has significant experience in structuring the portfolio investments of private equity funds. 

In merger and acquisition transactions, Mr. Furber has represented Advantage Partners in connection with the acquisition of Tokyo Star Bank, Primus Financial in connection with its proposed acquisition of Nan Shan Life Insurance Company Ltd. and Focus Media in its acquisition of Target Media. 

Mr. Furber has been recognized as one of the leading private equity funds lawyers in Asia by Chambers Asia (Chambers Asia 2011 – Asia’s Leading Lawyers for Business).

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Furber was an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York City.  He has lived in Brazil, China and Germany and has basic Mandarin skills and is fluent in Portuguese and German.  Mr. Furber has been based in Asia for more than nine years.
