We sponsor a wide-ranging calendar of extracurricular events in each of the five cities where we have formal Summer Programs—New York, Houston, Los Angeles, Palo Alto and Washington, D.C. Lunches in nearby restaurants, as well as dinners at partners’ homes, are common and comfortable venues. But the experience goes beyond these gatherings—we genuinely believe these events help bring your class together and plant the seeds for lifelong friendships.
The 2017 New York summer associates indulged in Shake Shack prior to attending a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at Shakespeare in the Park; enjoyed a Firm-wide event at the Chelsea Piers; watched a Yankees game from a luxury suite; participated in a food tour through Harlem; and were welcomed by the New York partners at a dinner in Bryant Park. Summer associates also partook in a firm-wide beer tasting event; sailed the Hudson river on a private boat and participated in various small, informal events, such as cocktail parties hosted by partners and a rooftop reception in the heart of Manhattan.
Palo Alto summer associates spent a day touring Napa wineries; watched the hit musical Hamilton in its San Francisco run; indulged in a chocolate tasting and chocolate making workshop; cheered on the Giants (or the opposing team); played several rounds of lawn bowling after receiving expert instruction; successfully escaped a Mad Hatter themed escape room; had dinner at partners’ homes; and enjoyed various impromptu events such as happy hours, softball games, ice cream socials, movie nights, local hikes, Warriors NBA Finals watch parties; a succulent terrarium plant night, a cocktail-making class, a day in Dolores Park, and a concert at Mountain Winery.
In Los Angeles, the summer associates enjoyed dinner at a partner’s home, watched a Dodgers baseball game, participated in an escape room adventure, and tested their skills at a ping pong tournament at the Mulholland Tennis Club. They enjoyed a night at the legendary Magic Castle, created their own masterpieces at Paint Nite and spent a day at Universal Studios Hollywood. They enjoyed various informal events such as happy hours and local basketball league games.
In Washington, D.C., the summer associates learned how to create their own Thai cuisine in a private cooking class; enjoyed the excitement of a flying trapeze and juggling class; watched the Nationals play the New York Mets; worked up a sweat at a SoulCycle class; sampled local cider during a private tasting; enjoyed The Second City’s Almost Accurate Guide to America at the Kennedy Center; and tested their luck at Casino Night.
Houston’s summer associates attended happy hours, a Houston Astros and Dynamo game, trivia night, bowling, an Escape Room adventure, casino night, TopGolf and dinner at Houston’s most celebrated restaurants. They also enjoyed dinners hosted by each of the partners, as well as a variety of other activates that allowed them the opportunity to get to know their colleagues and the Firm’s culture.
