Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We are deeply committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. We strive not only to recruit the best legal talent from all backgrounds, but also to develop and promote an ever-more inclusive pool of lawyers at all levels of the Firm. Our diversity is vital to providing the highest-quality legal services to our clients.

Diversity Works
From a richer range of experience and backgrounds emerges greater creativity, fresher perspectives, deeper understanding, enhanced collaboration and superior lawyering. We become a better law firm, and our clients and our community benefit.

The Firm has long been a leader among global law firms in promoting inclusion in the legal profession. In 1991, our partner Cyrus Vance chaired a committee of the New York City Bar Association that wrote the watershed Statement of Diversity Principles. The Vance Committee was composed of senior lawyers at Manhattan’s largest law firms and included our partner Conrad Harper, the Firm's first African-American partner—one of only two such partners at major law firms in New York City at the time.  Conrad later went on to serve as the first African-American president of the New York City Bar Association, and the Statement of Diversity Principles continues to be the leading expression of ideals for the profession.
