We are deeply committed to diversity. We strive not only to recruit the best legal talent from all backgrounds, but also to develop and promote an ever-more inclusive pool of lawyers at all levels of the Firm. Our diversity is vital to providing the highest-quality legal services to our clients.
The Firm has long been a leader among global law firms in promoting diversity in the legal profession. In 1991, our own Cyrus Vance chaired a committee of the New York City Bar Association that wrote the watershed Statement of Diversity Principles. The Vance Committee was composed of senior lawyers at Manhattan’s largest law firms and included Conrad Harper— our first African-American partner, who also served as president of the New York City Bar Association. The Statement of Diversity Principles continues to be the leading expression of ideals for the profession.
