Deborah Gruen

Deborah Gruen advises sponsors on private equity fund formation and operations across numerous asset strategies, including infrastructure funds, buyout funds and real estate funds. She regularly advises some of the world’s most prominent fund sponsors, such as Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, Carlyle and KKR, among others. Deborah was recognized by Law360 as a Fund Formation “Rising Star” for 2023 and was also selected as a member of Law360’s 2022 Private Equity Board.

Notable work highlights include representation of:

• Stonepeak in multiple fundraises, including its $14 billion Stonepeak Infrastructure Fund IV, $7.2 billion Stonepeak Infrastructure Fund III, $3.15 billion Stonepeak Opportunities Fund and its inaugural $2.75 billion Stonepeak Global Renewables Fund.
• Carlyle in the establishment of Carlyle Europe Partners V (€6.4 billion); Carlyle Europe Technology Partners IV (€1.35 billion); Carlyle Asia Partners V ($6.55 billion); Carlyle Structured Credit Fund ($800 million)
• Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners in connection with a passive, minority investment by Blue Owl’s GP Strategic Capital platform and a GP-led continuation fund process related to the $3 billion recapitalization of Cologix, Inc. 
• BlackRock in the establishment of Secondaries & Liquidity Solutions II, a secondary strategy
• Northwood Partners in raising over $8.5 billion for an evergreen real estate fund

Deborah joined the Firm in 2014 following a clerkship for the Hon. Roy W. McLeese III of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2013 where she was a recipient of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers award and lead editor of Tax Lawyer. She received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Yale University in 2010.
