Ian Barratt is a Partner in the Firm's London office. He focuses on domestic and cross-border acquisition finance, as well as other leveraged finance transactions. Ian’s most recent transactions have involved representing many of the world’s leading private equity firms, including matters for KKR and Apax. Ian is ranked as a Band 1 leading lawyer in banking and finance by Chambers, which notes that he “continues to be regarded as one of the ‘top names’ for sponsor-side representation.” Ian is also recognised as a “Hall of Fame” leading lawyer in acquisition finance by The Legal 500. He is admitted as an English solicitor.

  • Apax on the financing for its acquisition of ADCO Group
  • KKR on the financing for its voluntary public tender offer for Axel Springer
  • Apax on the unitranche financing for its acquisition of Baltic Classifieds Group
  • KKR on the financing for its acquisition of Unilever’s spreads business
  • Apax on the financing of its acquisition of Orange Switzerland
  • KKR and Stefano Pessina on the financing of their acquisition of Alliance Boots plc; the Alliance Boots acquisition was the first take-private of a FTSE 100 company and largest ever European buyout transaction based on value

Ian was admitted as an English solicitor in 2000 and joined the Firm in 2003. He received his undergraduate LL.B. Law degree from the University of Exeter in 1997.
