DEI Benchmarks and Recognitions

Our aim is to be a DEI champion and leader in the legal profession through innovation, intention and sustained commitment.

During the past three years, Simpson Thacher’s ranking in the Diversity Scorecard by the American Lawyer continues to improve. The Scorecard ranks firms through a series of metrics assessing their racial and ethnic diversity across firm leadership, equity partners and other attorneys. The 2022 Diversity Scorecard ranked Simpson at number #19—reminding us about our continuous progress and opportunities for growth.

The 2022 Diversity Snapshot survey by Law360 ranks Simpson Thacher at #10 for law firms with 601+ attorneys in the U.S., one of the highest external rankings measuring diverse lawyer populations and DEI metrics for large law firms.

For the tenth year, the Firm earned a 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI benchmarks workplace policies that greatly impact LGBTQ+ employees.

In 2022, 2021 and 2017, Simpson Thacher was recognized by Yale Law Women in their YLW Top Firms Report. For the seventeenth year, the Annual Top Firms Report monitors trends in overall equity among law firms ranked in the Vault 100, raises awareness of disparities within the legal profession and recognizes law firms making progress in the industry.

In 2021, Simpson Thacher received the Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF) for the tenth consecutive time in the United States and for the first time in the United Kingdom. Simpson Thacher is one of only four firms to have met both the U.S. and U.K. Gold Standard in 2021. WILEF grants Gold Standard certification to major law firms that meet objective criteria concerning the number of women among equity partners, firm leadership positions and in the ranks of their most highly compensated partners.
