The development and advancement of women lawyers remains one of the Firm’s most important priorities.
In 2006, Simpson Thacher formally established the partner-level Women’s Committee to monitor the progress of the Firm’s women lawyers, launch programs to develop women lawyers, ensure that women lawyers are fairly represented in the highest ranks of Firm management and address any unique issues that may impact them disproportionately.
Women’s Committee counts among its members some of the most influential
partners at the Firm. It’s a serious committee that is dedicated to providing
women lawyers with the support they need to reach their highest potential.”
To ensure we take into account the full range of ideas and perspectives of our women lawyers, the Firm’s Women’s Committee works very closely with the Women’s Advisory Council, which is comprised of women counsel and associates. Together, the Women’s Committee and the Women’s Advisory Council provide strategic direction to our efforts to promote gender equality throughout the Firm.
Among other initiatives, the Women’s Committee and the Women’s Advisory Council sponsor a wide array of programming geared specifically towards women lawyers. Recent events have included:
- Associate-led Lean In Circles featuring inspiring guest speakers such as best-selling authors, leadership coaches, the Dean of Columbia Law School, senior legal counsel at Google and at Survey Monkey, as well as roundtable discussions with Simpson Thacher partners;
- “Practice Advancement” lunches for women associates hosted by women partners in the Firm’s Litigation, Corporate, Tax, and Personal Planning Departments; and
- A “Presentation Skills” workshop for women attorneys in the New York office
In addition to professional events for women lawyers, the women partners frequently host lunches and informal social gatherings for women associates and counsel. These get-togethers foster a spirit of collegiality and camaraderie among our women lawyers.
