09.09.05

Ms. Natalia Martín, until recently an Associate Dean at Yale Law School, returned to Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in a new role as its Director of Legal Personnel and Professional Development, effective September 6, 2005.  Ms. Martín, a 1982 graduate of Harvard University and 1985 graduate of Yale Law School, was a corporate associate at Simpson Thacher from 1987 to 1991. In her new position at Simpson Thacher, Ms. Martín will coordinate the Firm’s efforts with regard to associate training, feedback, mentoring, diversity, career development and work/life issues.

"Our Firm is committed to the highest caliber of training and mentoring of associates.  With the return of Natalia, we are confident we will continue to improve in these important areas, and continue to build a diverse body of lawyers," said Pete Ruegger, Chairman of the Firm's Executive Committee.  Given Natalia's experience with students at Yale and her past association with the Firm, she was the obvious choice for the new position of Director of Legal Personnel and Professional Development," Mr. Ruegger continued.

Ms. Martín's career reflects her commitment to diversity and to multicultural endeavors.  She is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Casa Cultural, a cultural center for Latino students at Yale University, and is a 2004 recipient of the Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association's Achievement Award, which honors Latinos who have shown outstanding achievement in the field of law and commitment to the Latino community.  Ms. Martín currently mentors a group of Latino high school students in Norwalk, Connecticut.

After four years as an associate with Simpson Thacher, she left for Yale Law School in 1991 to assume responsibility for student affairs, first as an Assistant Dean and later as an Associate Dean, a position she held until July 1, 2005.  Ms. Martín is admitted to the bar in Connecticut, New York and Puerto Rico.
