For the past several years, STB attorneys have served as mentors and coaches to students at Brooklyn’s Sheepshead Bay High School, in preparation for competition in the New York State High School Mock Trial Tournament, which is sponsored by the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Youth, Law and Citizenship and by the New York Bar Foundation.
This year, STB is exceptionally proud that Sheepshead Bay finished as one of the top eight schools out of approximately 170 public and private schools throughout New York.
To celebrate this achievement, the Sheepshead Bay team appeared on CBS’s Early Show. The New York City Department of Education may also give the team special recognition for its achievement in the face of difficult odds. Since 2004, Sheepshead Bay has been one of several public high schools included in City Hall’s “Impact Schools” safety initiative.
STB attorneys involved in the program this year include co-coordinators Stephanie Shemin and Karen Abravanel, dedicated coaches Rebecca Mermelstein, Jennifer Marines, Howie Wachtel, Samuel Rubin, Chantale Fiebig, Elise Wolinsky, Ben Bleiberg, Taimarie Adams, Scott Sukenick and former associate Melissa Ganz.
