Corporate Partner Marissa C. Wesely spoke on a panel for Practising Law Institute’s "Where Are the Women in Commercial Litigation?" program on June 16, 2011. The panel–whose members included Justice Rosalyn H. Richter, Appellate Division, First Department, and Michele Coleman Mayes, General Counsel of Allstate–discussed recent statistics compiled by several judges in New York’s Appellate Division, First Department, which revealed that only 7% of the lead attorneys in recent commercial cases before that court were women. The panel also addressed what institutions (law firms, corporations and the bench) could do to improve that percentage, as well as what women litigators could do to promote themselves more effectively.
