Simpson Thacher M&A partner Bill Curbow was named “Dealmaker of the Week” by The American Lawyer for leading the team representing Vodafone Group Plc in connection with its sale of its 45% stake in Verizon Wireless to Verizon Communications for $130 billion (£84 billion), which consists primarily of cash, stock, Verizon loan notes and Verizon’s 23% interest in Vodafone Italy. Verizon Wireless is a joint venture owned 55% by Verizon Communications and 45% by Vodafone. This transaction, which is expected to close in the first quarter of 2014, will be the third-largest M&A transaction in history.  The transaction is subject to certain regulatory clearances as well as the approval of Vodafone’s and Verizon’s shareholders.  Working with Mr. Curbow in leading the team on the transaction is M&A partner Eric Swedenburg.
