02.26.20

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP today announced that it has further expanded the capabilities of its growing Registered Funds Practice with the addition of Steven Grigoriou as Counsel in Washington, D.C.

Simpson Thacher’s multidisciplinary Registered Funds Practice encompasses all aspects of the investment management business, with a focus on alternative asset managers seeking to access retail investor channels, asset management mergers and acquisitions, and advising on cutting-edge regulatory policy and strategy matters. With 20 full-time attorneys dedicated to the practice, the group has grown almost seven-fold in five years, and counts firms such as Apollo, Blackstone, Carlyle and KKR among its core clients.

Steven advises business development companies, closed-end funds and multinational investment advisers on a wide range of capital markets matters, including day-to-day public company matters for listed funds. He regularly represents fund sponsors and underwriters on a variety of equity and debt offerings, such as initial public offerings and secondary offerings, as well as rights offerings and preferred securities offerings. Steven also advises clients on regulatory matters related to Investment Company Act, Investment Advisers Act and Securities Exchange Act compliance.

“We are very pleased to welcome Steven to the Simpson Thacher team,” said Michael Wolitzer, Head of Simpson Thacher’s Investment Funds Practice. “Steven’s skills and experience will further enhance the ability of our market-leading practice to advise our private fund sponsor clients, who are increasingly looking to establish permanent and perpetual capital vehicles offered to retail investors.”

“Steven’s background advising business development companies and closed-end funds on securities offerings is a perfect complement to our existing registered funds capabilities,” noted Rajib Chanda, who leads the Firm’s Registered Funds Practice. “Bringing Steven into our group demonstrates our continued commitment to the sector and follows the elevation of Benjamin Wells to Partner earlier this year, as well as the additions of David Blass as a Partner and Ryan Brizek as Counsel in recent years.”

“Simpson Thacher’s Registered Funds Practice has a fantastic reputation and an unparalleled roster of clients,” said Steven. “I believe this is a perfect match for my practice and I am excited to join this outstanding group of lawyers.”

Steven was previously a member of the Investment Management Group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he has spent his entire career. He received his J.D. and an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto in 2008. Steven also received his B.Comm. from the University of Toronto in 2003.
