Simpson Thacher was profiled as a Real Estate Practice Group of the Year for 2025 by Law360. The Firm was recognized for its role in several major transactions over the past year, including Blackstone’s landmark $16.2 billion acquisition of Australian data center operator AirTrunk and its $4 billion acquisition of Retail Opportunity Investments Corp.
Sas Mehrara, Head of the Firm’s Real Estate Practice, told Law360 that the global scope of the AirTrunk acquisition required seamless cross-border collaboration among Simpson Thacher attorneys across multiple offices and practice areas, enabling Blackstone to execute a complex transaction in a new and distinctive market. Partner Whitney Salinas added that the Firm’s Real Estate Practice is adept at translating expertise across regions. She emphasized the value of “being able to use the technology and solutions that we've worked on with our clients in one geographic region and port it into another geographic region, realizing that a lot of the same markets exist in different regions.”
The profile also highlighted the rapid expansion of Simpson Thacher’s Real Estate Practice and noted how the recent addition of a lender-side practice provides a roadmap for future growth. “As we’ve grown, we’ve really been able to still maintain our small feel, but really grow in a way that allows for collaboration, allows the high-level respect amongst each other as we get scale,” Sas said.
