Litigation Associates Katherine Zhao and Elizabeth French co-wrote an article published on the California State Bar's website, “The FTC’s New Task Force Focuses On Occupational Licensing.” The article discusses the remarks of Maureen Ohlhausen, the Acting Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, on the FTC’s new Economic Liberty Task Force, which seeks to reform local and state occupational licensing regulations that unnecessarily hinder competition by excluding potential competitors from entering a market. The new task force aims to reduce “excessive occupational licensing,” including by educating state legislators and other interested parties on the potential anticompetitive effects of occupational licensing.
