Thomas Peeney is Counsel in Simpson Thacher’s Registered Funds Practice. His practice focuses on advising registered funds, investment advisers and fund boards in the development, structuring, operation and regulation of investment funds designed for retail and high net worth investors, including mutual funds, closed-end funds, interval funds, tender offer funds, and exchange-traded funds. Prior to joining Simpson Thacher, Tom was Director, Legal and Regulatory at Brookfield Asset Management, where he oversaw Brookfield’s registered fund complex.

Based in Simpson Thacher’s New York office, Thomas D. Peeney is Counsel in the Firm’s Registered Funds Practice. Tom’s practice focuses on advising investment funds designed for retail and high net worth investors, including mutual funds, closed-end funds, interval funds, tender offer funds, exchange-traded funds and their investment advisers and fund boards on the full range of investment management matters. His experience spans the development, structuring, operation and regulation of registered investment companies, and alternative fund structures, including fund governance matters, secondary market financings, and regulatory and compliance matters involving registered funds and their investment advisers and boards. Tom’s practice emphasizes the formation of these investment vehicles as well as the various legal issues that are particular to the investment management industry.

Prior to joining Simpson Thacher, Tom was Director, Legal and Regulatory at Brookfield Asset Management, where he oversaw Brookfield’s registered fund complex.

Tom received his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law. He earned his B.S. from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
