Aarthy S. Thamodaran is a Partner in Simpson Thacher’s Capital Markets Practice. Based in Washington, D.C., she advises prominent issuers, private equity sponsors and underwriters in a broad range of corporate finance transactions, including initial public offerings, follow-on and secondary equity offerings, spin-offs, high yield and investment grade debt offerings and acquisition financing transactions, as well as exchange offers and other liability management transactions. Her practice covers a wide spectrum of industries, including technology, industrials, business and professional services, financial services and real estate. She also advises clients on ongoing public reporting, compliance and corporate governance matters.
Aarthy was among the contributing editors who authored the “Global Overview” and “United States” sections of the 2023 and 2024 editions of “Lexology Panoramic: Initial Public Offerings,” which provides a comprehensive overview of the IPO market in jurisdictions around the world. Additionally, she frequently contributes to Initial Public Offerings: Considerations for Business Owners and Executives Taking Their Company Public.

Aarthy joined Simpson Thacher in 2021 and became a partner in 2026. She received her B.A. from Yale University in 2009 and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2012, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif and was the Managing Editor of Georgetown Journal of Law and Public Policy. Additionally, she received her M.B.A. from University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2020. She is admitted to practice in Washington, D.C. and Virginia.
