David McKendrick is a Partner in the Firm’s Energy and Infrastructure Practice. Based in London, David represents sponsors, infrastructure investors and corporate clients on a wide range of domestic and cross-border infrastructure transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, take-private transactions, joint ventures, consortium arrangements and restructurings. He has extensive experience advising clients on transactions across the energy, transport and digital infrastructure sectors, including energy, power, renewables, energy transition, transport, ports, logistics, airports, digital infrastructure, telecoms, water and waste.

David previously worked in-house at Maersk, the global shipping and logistics company, in Copenhagen, Denmark, and completed a secondment to Vitol, the global energy and commodities trading company.

Notable experience prior to joining Simpson Thacher includes advising:

  • Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), a part of BlackRock, on various transactions, including the $3.9 billion consortium takeover offer for Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, the sale of a 50.01% interest in Edinburgh Airport to VINCI Airports for £1.27 billion and the sale of the remaining minority interest to a continuation fund managed by GIP
  • Igneo Infrastructure Partners on the acquisition of a 50% interest in Höegh Evi (previously Höegh LNG) from funds managed by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners
  • Vitol on its €583 million acquisition of a 35% stake in Saras S.p.A. and subsequent €1.7bn mandatory tender offer
  • InfraBridge, a division of DigitalBridge, on various transactions, including the merger of its UK fibre businesses VX UK and LilaConnect with Freedom Fibre and the subsequent merger with County Broadband and Truespeed

He has extensive experience advising clients on transactions across the energy, transport and digital infrastructure sectors, including energy, power, renewables, energy transition, transport, ports, logistics, airports, digital infrastructure, telecoms, water and waste.

David previously worked in-house at Maersk, the global shipping and logistics company, in Copenhagen, Denmark, and completed a secondment to Vitol, the global energy and commodities trading company. David trained at a Magic Circle firm and worked at a major U.S. law firm in London before joining the Firm in 2026.

David has particular expertise in maritime and aviation infrastructure, including port operations, shipping, logistics and airports, having advised on a number of the most significant transactions in those sectors in recent years. David also has extensive experience advising transactions across the energy sector, including offshore wind, solar, nuclear, oil and gas, LNG and energy-from-waste.

David completed the L.P.C. at BPP Law School in 2013, following the completion of his G.D.L. at BPP Law School in 2012. He received a M.A. in History from the University of Cambridge in 2015, having previously obtained his B.A. in History from the University of Cambridge in 2011. He is admitted to practice in England and Wales.
