Tony Liu

Tony Liu is a Partner in Firm’s Hong Kong office and a member of the Asia Private Funds Practice. Tony’s practice includes the representation of sponsors in a range of fund formation matters. His experience includes the representation of leading international sponsors including Affinity, Cinven, Coller Capital, CVC and EQT. He has advised on funds across a broad range of asset classes, including buyout, venture, real estate, credit and secondaries.

Tony’s recent fund formation and other experience includes:

• Cinven in the establishment of its $14.5 billion private equity fund, the Eighth Cinven Fund
• CVC Capital Partners in the establishment of its €26 billion private equity fund, CVC Capital Partners IX, and its $6.8 billion private equity fund, CVC Capital Partners Asia VI
• EQT in the establishment of its €22 billion private equity fund, EQT X
• J-INC in the establishment of its ¥60 billion private equity fund, Avant Fund Cayman LP
• Primavera Capital in the establishment of Primavera Capital Fund IV and Primavera Capital Fund III*
• SilkRoad Property Partners in the establishment of SilkRoad Asia Value Partners II*

Tony joined the Firm’s London office in 2022 and relocated to Hong Kong in 2024. He also completed a secondment at Coller Capital during his time in the Firm’s London office. Prior to joining Simpson Thacher, he worked in an international law firm in Singapore.

A graduate of the National University of Singapore, Tony is a native Mandarin speaker. He is admitted to practice in Singapore.
