Adam Goldberg has deep experience representing clients across Asia in disputes and investigations, including internal and government investigations, securities litigation, and regulatory counseling, including with respect to anti-corruption, sanctions, anti-money laundering and data privacy compliance. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Adam first came to China in 1996 and has lived and worked throughout Asia, giving him a unique understanding of region-specific business needs. Adam regularly lectures and conducts training on regulatory compliance and enforcement, and has litigated a variety of matters at the U.S. trial and appellate court levels.

  • Conducting numerous internal investigations in China—and in Mandarin—in the financial services, health care, life sciences, consumer products, technology, hospitality, aviation and manufacturing sectors relating to allegations of bribery, kickbacks, money laundering, improper accounting and revenue recognition, and the misuse of third-party agents.
  • Representing leading global private equity firms in M&A-related international arbitrations before the ICC and HKIAC, both in the capacities of claimant and respondent.
  • Representing defendants in class actions alleging violation of U.S. securities laws, including matters relating to the U.S. IPOs of Asia-based issuers.
  • Conducting FCPA training for in-house counsel, corporate executives and local management, employees and partners.
  • Advising corporations on the design and implementation of FCPA compliance programs, including policies and internal controls.
  • Representing plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement actions at the trial court and appellate court levels, including disputes related to digital video recorders, liquid crystal displays (LCDs), and internet search technology.

Adam Goldberg is Counsel in the Firm’s Litigation Department currently practicing in the Hong Kong office. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Adam advises clients throughout Asia in a wide variety of disputes and investigations, including internal and government investigations, international arbitrations, securities litigation and counseling on the regulatory aspects of business transactions. He also represents clients in complex business and intellectual property disputes, and has litigated at both the trial court and appellate court levels.

Adam routinely assists corporations, investment banks and private equity funds in conducting regulatory risk assessments and implementing effective anti-corruption and anti-money laundering compliance programs, pre-transaction due diligence and Chinese-and English-language employee trainings.

Prior to joining Simpson Thacher, Adam was an attorney at two other leading law firms. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard R. Clifton, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in Honolulu, Hawaii. 

He received his J.D. in 2006 from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the UCLA Law Review. He received his A.B. with honors, magna cum laude, in 1999 from Brown University, where he received the Harris T. Whitmore Departmental Award in East Asian Studies.

Adam is admitted to the bar in California and to practice before the United States Appeals Court for the Ninth Circuit, the United States District Court, Northern District of California and the High Court of Hong Kong.
