Our Washington, D.C. office enhances our ability to serve our clients on the ground in our Nation’s Capital. Our transactional attorneys provide the expertise of an elite Wall Street firm from offices located in the heart of Washington, D.C. In addition, many of our partners have extensive government experience and help clients both navigate complex regulatory reviews and investigations and litigate high-profile matters. More than 100 D.C.-based lawyers work on integrated teams across our 11 global offices to put the collective strength of the entire Firm to work for our clients on capital markets transactions, banking and credit transactions, M&A transactions, private, registered and retail fund formation, tax matters, governance and compliance matters, competition matters, government and internal investigations, and international regulatory and compliance matters.

Summer Program

Simpson Thacher operates a Summer Program in our Washington, D.C. office, which includes a host of social events, both formal and informal, that are designed to nurture relationships among the class and attorneys, as well as foster an understanding of the Firm’s intangible characteristics. We provide a wide range of opportunities to experience the diversity of the Firm’s practice, as well as to meet and engage with our attorneys. You will participate in both an initial orientation program to introduce you to the Firm’s work and culture, and a series of “Lunch & Learn” training programs and workshops throughout the course of the summer.

We believe that the summer program is your time to determine what area of practice suits you best.  To this end, our assigning attorneys will try to match you to the work you want, based on your expressed practice interests. Your assignments will give you a realistic introduction to life as an associate, working as a member of the team, while simultaneously refining your researching, writing and legal analysis skills. Additional guidance will be provided throughout the summer by your assigned mentor.

Simpson Thacher’s Washington, D.C. office sponsors many social activities throughout the summer, allowing you to spend time with our attorneys outside of the office and to experience the many attractions of the nation’s capital.  In previous years, Washington, D.C. summer associates have attending D.C. sporting events, cooking classes, Partner Dinners and many impromptu happy hours and casual events.
