Janet Whittaker Moderated Panel and Spoke at the 2013 International Bar Association Annual Conference in Boston

Simpson Thacher International Arbitration Counsel Janet Whittaker co-moderated a panel at the International Bar Association (“IBA”) Annual Conference in Boston on October 8, 2013. The panel was entitled, “Real Time v. Formal Time:  Why is Litigation Adversely Affected by Unnecessary Formalities?” The panel discussed cross border litigation involving Latin American jurisdictions and was presented by the IBA Latin America Forum and IBA Litigation Committee.

 

On October 9, 2013, Ms. Whittaker spoke on the Investment Arbitration panel which discussed handling allegations of corruption; choosing between UNCITRAL ad hoc arbitration and ICSID arbitration; choosing between the ICSID Additional Facility and UNCITRAL ad hoc arbitration;  application of investment protection treaties to sovereign debt crises; and the current state of transparency in investment arbitration.
