Simpson Thacher Attorneys Present at the Investment Adviser Association on Prediction Markets

Adam Aderton, Justin Browder and Meaghan Kelly, Partners in the Firm’s Asset Management Regulatory and Enforcement Practice, spoke on a member call hosted by the Investment Adviser Association (IAA) on February 24. The session, entitled, “Prediction Markets,” provided an overview of the regulatory and legal status of prediction markets and event contracts under both federal and state law. Adam, Justin and Meaghan discussed the rapid growth and evolving landscape of event-based derivatives, outlining how regulators are currently approaching these products and the implications for investment advisers. They also highlighted key considerations for advisers evaluating their compliance programs and internal controls as prediction markets continue to develop and attract increased attention.

The IAA is a trade association representing the interests of fiduciary investment advisers and the investors they serve.
