09.08.26

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP today announced that Jonathan Westreich has joined the Firm as a Partner in its Tax Practice, based in Los Angeles.

“Adding a Tax partner of Jonathan’s caliber further enhances our offering as we continue to expand the Firm’s resources and capabilities across the country,” said Nancy Mehlman, Co-Head of the Firm’s Tax Practice. “Jonathan’s deep experience advising on the tax aspects of high-profile, complex corporate transactions will bring tremendous value to our clients and further strengthen our transactional capabilities across key markets.”

“Jonathan’s breadth of experience across M&A, private equity, restructurings and financings makes him an outstanding addition to our practice,” said Marcy Geller, Co-Head of the Firm’s Tax Practice. “His deep industry knowledge in the sports, entertainment and media sectors further bolsters our ability to provide comprehensive tax counsel to clients, particularly as our Sports practice continues to grow following the recent addition of Michael Kuh, Eric Geffner and Matthew Carpenter-Dennis earlier this year.”

“Jonathan’s addition as our fifth lateral partner hire in Los Angeles this year reflects the significant momentum we have built in the market and underscores our strategy of investing in exceptional talent and capabilities that support our clients’ most important priorities,” said Tom Wuchenich, Managing Partner of Simpson Thacher’s Los Angeles office.

Jonathan represents companies, investment funds and other strategic clients in complex corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, tax-free reorganizations and restructurings with respect to domestic and cross-border tax issues. He also has significant experience with capital markets offerings, financings and joint ventures, including transactions involving real estate, with a particular focus on clients in the sports, media and entertainment industries.

“Simpson Thacher’s collegial culture, commitment to excellence and premier global footprint provide an impressive foundation for serving clients at the highest level,” said Jonathan. “I look forward to contributing to the continued momentum of the Los Angeles office while helping clients navigate complex, high-profile transactions around the world.”

Simpson Thacher’s Tax Practice is continually called upon by investment funds, banks, multinational corporations and other leading companies for advice on their largest and most complex transactions. The global team works closely with colleagues in all of the Firm’s transactional practices including Mergers and Acquisitions, Private Equity, Capital Markets, Investment Funds and Real Estate to offer clients the full spectrum of deal and fund capabilities.
