Mark Kingstone acts as Senior Counsel in the Firm’s Tax Practice. He is a U.K. and international tax specialist with more than 30 years of experience, having previously been a tax partner at a Magic Circle firm for 25 years. Mark is widely acknowledged as a leading corporate tax expert, highly rated in Chambers and The Legal 500. He has extensive experience advising on mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganisations and complex financings, as well as fund formation and asset manager advice. Mark also has experience counseling on contentious tax matters in the U.K., including tax authority enquiries and disputes involving FTSE 100 and other multinational companies.

    • Visa Europe in its $20 billion sale to Visa Inc.
    • National Grid plc in the £13.8 billion disposal of an initial 61% interest in its gas distribution business
    • Unilever PLC in its proposal to simplify under a single holding company
    • Mondi plc in the unwinding of its dual-listed company structure

Prior to working with Simpson Thacher, Mark’s recent experience has included advising Visa Europe in its $20 billion sale to Visa Inc., National Grid plc in the £13.8 billion disposal of an initial 61% interest in its gas distribution business, Unilever PLC in its proposal to simplify under a single holding company and Mondi plc in the unwinding of its dual-listed company structure.

Mark received his Bachelor of Civil Law and his Law Degree from Oxford University. He is admitted in England and Wales.
