Simpson Thacher Attorneys Quoted in Latinvex on 2026 Capital Markets Outlook in Latin America

02.09.26

Co-Heads of Simpson Thacher’s Latin America Practice Todd Crider and Grenfel Calheiros, and Partner Juan Francisco Méndez, were featured in a series of Latinvex Q&As, which provided an overview of the outlook for capital markets in Latin America this year. Todd explained that “the region’s improving macroeconomic fundamentals and growing investor interest in emerging markets suggest that there will be meaningful opportunities for well-positioned Latin American issuers in the year ahead.” Juan added that, “lower U.S. interest rates, tighter interest spreads and stronger local currencies are pulling investors back into emerging markets, which should continue to support both refinancings and new money raises across the region.” With reference to Brazil, Grenfel commented that momentum is expected to carry through the year, as “fiscal discipline and lower interest rates will likely be drivers for the reopening of the equity capital markets, and the possibility of a pro-business election result in October could improve the outlook.” Juan noted that in Mexico, the country “is set up for a strong year in debt capital markets, with both sovereign and corporate issuers seeing healthy demand and solid macro tailwinds.” Juan also discussed how new equity transaction opportunities may be occurring in Argentina and that “rising investment in energy and mining underscores investor confidence in Argentina’s resource base and may create a growing pipeline for project finance and capital markets activity.”
