Simpson Thacher Attorneys Featured in PEI Q&A on PE Opportunities in the Sports Sector
Co-Heads of Simpson Thacher’s Sports Group Eric Geffner and Michael Kuh, and Sports Partner Matthew Carpenter-Dennis were featured in a keynote interview with Private Equity International about opportunities for investors presented by the fast-expanding sports industry as top teams reach multibillion-dollar valuations and firms look to establish their presence in the space. Eric noted that “Valuations are skyrocketing, and the growth has been exponential over the last five years.” Mike further explained that “One reason why institutional investors are so attracted to sports is the industry has demonstrated a remarkable ability to withstand economic disruptions.” With reference to new emerging leagues and interest in exploring external capital solutions for the advancement of those leagues, Matt added that this “has created a real opportunity not only for leagues and founding entities, but also for capital allocators to deploy investments in differentiated areas with significant upside potential.”
