Simpson Thacher has been named the Who's Who New York Legal Law Firm of the Year in the 2006 Who's Who Legal Awards. Managing Editor Callum Campbell said: “Simpson Thacher has 49 listings in 14 different practice areas overall and, as such, is a worthy winner of the Who’s Who Legal Law Firm of the Year for New York, with outstanding individual talent and breadth of expertise. This is the first time we have singled out an individual firm within a state for such an honour, and Simpson Thacher can truly be said to be New York’s leading firm.”
Who's Who also named Simpson Thacher & Bartlett "The Global M&A Law Firm of the Year". Dick Beattie, Casey Cogut, Rich Capelouto, John Finley and Rob Spatt were identified as being highly regarded in the M&A field.
In other awards, Simpson Thacher Partner Tom Bell was named the "Leading Private Funds Lawyer" in the world, having received more recommendations than any other practitioner in this category.
The Firm was also named global Private Funds Law Firm of the Year. This accolade follows similar recognition in the inaugural awards last year. In addition to Tom Bell (the Private Funds Lawyer of the Year), Michael Wolitzer, Glenn Sarno, Michael Nooney and Phil Culhane were identified as leaders in their field.
All of the awards are based on a number of factors, including the feedback received in the ongoing research process, past performance in the research and the overall aggregate number of weighted votes cast in their favor.
