Simpson Thacher Hosts Exempt Organizations Fall Symposium in New York

10.26.26

Simpson Thacher will host its Exempt Organizations Fall Symposium on October 28 in New York. The program, “Exemption Under Scrutiny: Why and How the Proposed Regulations for Private School Exemption Affect the Philanthropic Sector as a Whole,” will bring together nonprofit leaders, philanthropists and other stakeholders to discuss the implications of regulations proposed under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code regarding discrimination by private schools on the basis of race, color, or national or ethnic origin.

The program will feature a panel of Simpson Thacher lawyers, including Partner and Head of the Exempt Organizations Practice David Shevlin, Partner and Head of the Endowment Advisory Practice John Bennett, Exempt Organizations Partner Maura Whelan and Exempt Organizations Senior Counsel Jennifer Franklin.

During the discussion, the panel will examine the far-reaching impact of the proposed regulations on the exempt organizations sector, extending beyond the institutions directly affected to include foundations, charitable organizations and other funders. Panelists also will explore the rapidly evolving legal and regulatory landscape surrounding philanthropic activities that provide assistance and support to historically disadvantaged and underrepresented communities.
