Simpson Thacher represented funds affiliated with Blackstone in connection with their acquisition of a significant minority stake in Rowan Digital Infrastructure (“Rowan”), a leading sustainable hyperscale data center developer.
Founded in November 2020, Rowan is actively developing multiple 300 MW to 1+ GW campuses across the U.S. to meet the next-generation capacity needs of hyperscale operators in a dynamic market. Blackstone’s investment builds on Rowan’s recent growth and will help drive its future development pipeline and support ongoing capacity expansion for hyperscale customers across existing and new sites in the US.
The Simpson Thacher team was led by Michael Chao, Sam Rudik, Scott Kobak, Anthony Vernace and Erica Egenes, members of the Firm’s market-leading Digital Infrastructure and Data Center practice, and also included: Luca Tomasi and Alton Mathew (M&A); Alexa Effron, Isabel Florentino and Anne Mummerysp (Real Estate); Brian Chisling, Javad Asghari, Eleanor Milne, Andrew Maryan and Chelsey Schroeter (Energy and Infrastructure); Nancy Mehlman and Ruoxi Zhang (Tax); Gregory Grogan, Andrew Blau and Hannah Daniels (Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits); Caroline Geiger, Anthony Tran and Tally Smitas (Intellectual Property and Privacy); Toby Chun and Deepa Sarkar (Environmental); and John Anselmi, Sam Saunders and David Kim (Banking and Credit).
